Here are some frequently asked questions:

We are a non-denominational church with influences from other denominations, especially Baptist. We chose to not be a Baptist church because we were not 100% in agreement some of the requirements for membership, especially those related to alcohol use. We are associated with the San Felipe Baptist Association and members of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. We give to multiple missionaries that are part of the International Mission Board, as well as some who are not. We are asked this question often and we try never to disparage any theologically sound denomination.
We baptize by immersion and require that from all of our members for the following reasons:
Jesus did it this way and it is the closest thing we will ever do that is like Jesus. He set the example for us to follow. Immersion Baptism is most often associated with a conscious decision and choice to follow Christ. We want all of our members to be able to express, in an age appropriate manner, why Baptism is important to them. Immersion baptism is symbolic of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus and those accept the free gift of grace. It is a beautiful picture to others that you have been given eternal life. Of all the things that Jesus will ask of a disciple, being baptized is by far the easiest. (Colossians 2:8-15; Matthew 28:19-20; Romans 6:3-4; Acts 8:36-38; Galatians 3:26-27; 1 Peter 1:23-25; John 3:23; )
Any professing believer in Christ may take the Lord’s Supper with us. However, we caution anyone who is not a believer to refrain from this practice. Likewise, anyone who is not in good standing, or under church discipline, is HIGHLY encouraged to not participate in this observance.
We have multiple systems in place, including background checks and a redundancy of leadership model that assures that no child is ever left alone with a single adult.
We are beginning to incorporate our church membership process. Here are just a few examples from Scripture that have led us to this decision. Hebrews 13:17; 1 Timothy 5;17; Acts 2:37-37; Romans 12:11-16; 1 Corinthians 5:1-12; Matthew 18; Galatians 6.
The requirements for membership to serve and lead vary from role to role. We will require membership for roles that include teaching and key leadership roles that influence the mission, vision, and values of our church. However, there are some roles that do not require membership like hospitality and set up and other roles. We are still working on some of these specifics.
This is a case-by-case situation as well. We want to demonstrate grace when ever possible. We hope that the last church would communicate the concern when we request the letter. In fact, it is our policy NOT to transfer membership for anyone who leaves to avoid discipline from our church. What we really want is for the situation to be dealt with properly and in a way that honors God and restores each person to right relationships with others and with God.
